چکیده

The branching ratio of the two modes of decay of Fm'", i.e., E.C./n, was found to be about 8.5—which gives 89.5% decay by electron capture and 10.5% by alpha emission. It was not possible to measure the cross section for the Cf'"(n, 3n)Fm'" reaction because Fm'" could also be produced from other californium isotopes in the target. A previous publication4 on a possible identification of the Fm'" gave the values of 6.85&0.04 Mev for the alpha-particle energy, and a half-life &10 days. It is a pleasure to thank the crew of the 60-inch cyclotron for their extremely careful and skillful operation of the machine during the bombardment. We wish to thank Professor Glenn T. Seaborg for his continued interest. * On leave from the Israel Atomic Energy Commission, Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovoth, Israel. 'Thompson, Ghiorso, Harvey, and Choppin, Phys. Parity Nonconservation in Polarized Electron

Parity violation has been well established in particle physics for many years, since the 1950's where it was first seen in beta decay processes. The strong and electromagnetic forces are parity conserving, and the experimental evidence that parity was not conserved in weak processes came somewhat as a surprise. The weak forces are responsible for the decay of radioactive nuclei, and it was in t...

Test of Physics beyond the Standard Model in Nuclei

The modern theories of Grand Unification (GUT) and supersymmetric (SUSY) extensions of standard model (SM) suppose that the conservation laws of the SM may be violated to some small degree. The nuclei are well-suited as a laboratory to test fundamental symmetries and fundamental interactions like lepton flavor (LF) and lepton number (LN) conservation. A prominent role between experiments lookin...

Question of Parity Conservation in Weak Interactions

the r+(=E s+) mesons. On the other hand, analyses' of the decay products of r+ strongly suggest on the grounds of angular momentum and parity conservation that the ~+ and 8 are not the same particle. This poses a rather puzzling situation that has been extensively discussed. ' One way out of the difhculty is to assume that parity is not strictly conserved, so that 0+ and v-+ are two diGerent de...

The lepton number violating process μ → eγ is used to study the lepton number violating couplings in MSSM extended by terms violating R-parity explicitly. Bounds are obtained for the products of λor λ-type couplings. It is found that many of these limits are more stringent than the ones obtained previously.
